Thousands of women dressed in various shades of crimson chants to make their voices heard for an “End to Male violence” which is at the root of many social, political, cultural and economical hardship around the world. From Western societies to underdeveloped, developing or emerging countries. Women are still at the receiving ends of unspeakable violence and cruelty.

The March aims to hold a mirror to the world about male violence. Domestic violence or war initiated violence. The Congolese women with their share of ongoing genocide which has decimated populations in the East of Congo is also staring to have a destabilising and damaging effect in Congolese societies at large. Rape is use as a weapon of war in various instances as documented by Dr Denis Mukwege in various reports. But the overall aim with this violence is to kill the Congolese women, to destroy the Congolese womb and reproductive system. By doing this, they aim to pulverise the Congolese Man and Congolese in general.

In the deafening silence by the international communities who has been unwilling to develop long term, tangible and effective solutions which will not involve the balkanisation and the partition of the country; the Congolese women have for many years take it upon themselves to Act. To Resist and Challenge the victimhood and the exploitation of their plight by the ever growing NGO’s and Humanitarian sector so eager to claim funds on the back of the Congolese rape women and set up programs which have resulted to little to no change in their conditions for over 15 years now.

Thus, the Congolese women marched again this year. As they do every year accompanying the MILLION WOMEN RISE movement joining the ranks of various women’s Rights such as Women in Black who stand against Militarism and War, The Voice of Darfur Women or the Freedom without Fear Platform which grew out of the massive meeting in solidarity with the Anti-rape movement in India, following the horrific gang rape of a 23 year old student on December 2012 in Delhi.

Like other Women’s movement the Congolese women also faced the condescending , patronizing and downright racist approach by some organisations and media reporter claiming that “Rape is cultural”. Whilst she tries to raise awareness of the situation of Women in the East of Congo who are rape to destroy communities and clear the land to allow Rwanda, Uganda, Multinationals and corrupted Congolese officials to take possession of Congolese soil rich in minerals to provide material for new technologies.

But the Congolese women keep marching. We marched. Steadily and courageously this year again we marched.

Led by the Congolese Women’s platform COMMON CAUSE UK with representatives who travelled all the way from Bradford, Manchester and various parts of London. They marched. We marched. This is our Long March to Freedom and we will keep marching until we get there.

Therefore it is fitting for us to mark International Women’s Day with a strong link with the Ingeta platform www.ingeta.com Because we march hand in hand with the Congolese Men, Youths and Children for the Liberation of Congo.

COME.
