London, UK: Anti-War Congo Demo, Friday 13th Dec 2013

London, UK: Anti-War Congo Demo, Friday 13th Dec 2013 IN

Mothers of Congo & UK Congo Activists demonstrate outside the Ugandan High Commission in London on Friday 13th December, 1pm-5pm to demand that the ICC issue an arrest warrant for M23 Rebel Leader, Sultani Makenga. Mrs EB Simon, Founder, MOC (Mothers of Congo) is calling for the Ugandan Government to:

“Handover the butcher of the Congolese people, Sultani Makenga, who is accused by the UN Security Council of being responsible for killing and raping innocent Congolese civilians. The ICC must issue an arrest warrant for Makenga immediately and Uganda has to hand Makenga over to the ICC in order for him to be tried for the accusations of crimes against humanity and human rights abuses.”

Please join us for the Mothers of Congo and UK Congolese Activist Demonstration on Friday 13th December from 1pm-5pm outside the Ugandan High Commission, London to denounce the Ugandan Government’s role in the on-going war in Congo & to call on the ICC to issue an arrest warrant for the rebel leader of M23, Sultani Makenga.

Although the ‘UN Security Council imposed a travel ban and asset freeze on Makenga last year, accusing him of being responsible for the “killing and maiming, sexual violence, abduction, and forced displacement” – a reference to the fact that some 800,000 people fled their homes during the 19-month rebellion’, the ICC have yet to issue an arrest warrant for war criminal Sultani Makenga.

The war in the DRC has been raging for almost 20 years with an estimated 1.1 million women suffering from rape at the hands of various rebel groups supported by both the Ugandan and Rwandan governments, as well as soldiers from the undisciplined Congolese army. MOC and UK Congolese Activists will be demanding an end to rape as a weapon of war used against Congolese Women and calling for justice for victims of rape and war by the ICC, specifically that the leader of M23 Rebel Group, Sultani Makenga, be issued with an arrest warrant for his role in the on-going violence.

Join us on Friday 13th December outside the Ugandan High Commission and help us to end the war in Congo.
